This is my 7th pregnancy to make it past the 6 week mark so I’m pretty thrilled I get to share tips and how-to’s again when it comes to the beauty of pregnancy.
I don’t know everything, and I sure do find new ways to help with sickness, eat more and keep hydrated. So I thought I’d share some tips for keeping hydrated during pregnancy.
Have you been pregnant? Are you pregnant right now? Ever feel like even just one more drop of water may make you vomit everything you’ve ever eaten in your entire life? I just finished this whole phase which lasted from 6 weeks to 16 weeks. Yes, SIXTEEN weeks. How fun.
We all know that can get old really quickly, and sometimes my body just can’t do it. Drinking water is so important but what are you to do when you feel full, bloated or just like you can’t have anymore? Here is what I did, and found really helped keep me hydrated even when I really didn’t want to drink anymore water..
FLAVOR YOUR WATER:
This can be a hard one because often the store bought packets of flavoring are full of stuff that isn’t good for you while not pregnant, let alone when you are so although I do indulge in an amazing packet of iced tea every once in a while I stick to flavoring my waters with fruit. A slice of lime, lemon or even a mint leaf is an amazing way to spruce up that water. Before deciding what to add to my water, pregnant or not, it is more beneficial to our health that our water has been filtered. At least this way, we know that it is clean. My friend only started drinking purified water when she was expecting her child and she said it was the best thing that she ever d
HAVE A CUP OF SOUP:
I’ll admit the first 16 weeks of pregnancy I didn’t want to eat much. It was hard to stay hydrated and keep any food down. When I felt like that I’d have a cup of soup.
ENJOY A CUP OF COLD MILK – CHOCOLATE IF YOU PREFER:
Growing up my mom gave me a cup of milk with every meal. I loved it and always looked forward to my cup. However, as I’ve gotten older milk is usually the last thing I am reaching for. Although, the odd time I will crave a nice cold glass I still usually shy away from it. So, when I feel like I haven’t had any in a long time I’ll grab a glass, but if it makes me queasy, I’ll grab some chocolate instead.
USE ICE OR PUT YOUR CUP IN THE FREEZER FOR A FEW MINUTES:
I will be honest here, I cannot drink water if it’s even the slightest bit warm. I just CANNOT DO IT. I find ice takes forever to make my water as cold as I need it and sometimes it can taste a little off to me – so often I’ll just place my cup in the freezer for 5ish minutes… then take it out and drink the whole darn thing. It’s so good when super cold.
SKIP THE WATER AND CHEW ON SOME ICE CHIPS:
Skip the cup of water, and make some ice chips. Sometimes this is just the way better option. It can sometimes trick your mind into thinking its something other than water, especially because its so cold and oh so refreshing – trust me, it works!
Well, there you have it. My 5 tips that helped me stay hydrated in the first 16 weeks of pregnancy. All of which I will continue to use until this precious little one makes an entrance into the world. Keeping hydrated is so important during pregnancy, and although it can feel impossible sometimes especially if you are as sick as I’ve been – it’s a must. Do what you can to make sure you keep up!
