8 Snacks for Kids to Keep on Hand During the Summer

Doesn’t it seem like kids are non-stop eating machines during the summer months? With school out and the kids at home, you might find yourself going through snack foods like crazy. If you are trying to encourage healthier, well-balanced eating, you will want to think twice about the snacks you keep on hand. Look at these 8 snacks for kids to keep on hand during the summer, so you can keep kids fueled and full!

1. Veggie/fruit sticks and peanut butter
At the start of the week cut up fresh vegetables such as carrots and celery. You can also be sure you have plenty of fresh fruit on hand. Keep some peanut butter and small cups on hand (even baking cups work great) so kids can fill their cup with fresh produce and a teaspoon of peanut butter for dipping. This is a high in protein option they will love.

2. Cheese cubes and chicken strips
For a more savory snack try cheese cubes and chicken strips. You can buy cheese in bulk and cut it into cubes, and buy premade grilled chicken strips or make your own. Divide the cheese and chicken into containers so kids can grab and go. This is a filling snack perfect for growing kids.

3. Crackers and cheese
Kids love crackers, and serving them with cheese offers some calcium and other important nutrients. Keep cheese cuts on hands and lots of cracker sleeves so kids can easily serve themselves when hunger hit! Try different kinds of cheese and crackers for various flavor combinations.

4. Hard boiled eggs

    Great ideas! My niece and nephew are always looking for snacks during the holidays!! I think it’s the novelty of being at home LOL. Keeping any of these on hand would be such a good idea

    These are awesome ideas! It’s nice to be prepared especially since the summer can make them a little hungry from all the activities! Peanut butter is very filling and could keep them energized through the afternoon!

    My kids seriously go through bags of cheese cubes in the summer. I love that it’s such an easy snack for them to eat – and much healthier than cookies! I’m adding a couple more of your recommendations to my shopping list!

    Crackers and cheese are one of my favourite snacks but I can end up eating a lot of them. I find popcorn a great snack as it seems to last a while x

    Snacks during the summer! UGH! One of my woes as a mother of four. I think it’s important to keep it interesting and to keep it simple as well. These are all great ideas, some are snacks that I serve to my kids as well. Tried and tested!

    Popcorn is, and always will be, one of our go-to snacks to keep on hand! It’s so affordable to buy, so we can stock up and don’t feel too guilty when we eat through a bag or two a week!

    My son actually LOVES hard boiled eggs so it is easy to make him snacks, it just is crazy how much he loves eggs! Granola is a good go to too.
