Fun Outdoor Activities For Kids That Toddlers Can Follow Along With During Spring & Summer

Having eight kids means lots of different activities going on all the time at the same time. My kids range from age 6 weeks to 15 years old so what one of the older kids may be doing the other kid who is 2 may not be able to do. So, I’ve had to really sit down and figure out activities we can do at home in the backyard or front yard or what can be done with a short walk to one of the many parks around us.

We can’t always get to the parks so making sure we have plenty to do in the backyard is ideal. Here is a list of items to pick up (most can be found at the dollar store) that the kids can all do together while outside!

  • Bubbles

  1. These are all great ways to keep kids busy and happy during the summer months. My grandsons love to break out the water guns and play for hours.

  2. All of these games are fun and would entertain not only the kids but adults as well. Get outdoors and enjoy all the fresh air and sunshine together.

  3. Just in time for summer! We just started summer break and we need ideas to stay engaged all summer so we are not just looking at the screen!

  4. These are some fun ideas. My kids always loved their water table when they were small. We have a trampoline in the backyard now, so they’re usually on that.

  5. I lve the idea of the little ones being led and playing with the older kids in your family. Having plenty of snacks is an essential and you have chosen some of the best.

  6. This is an awesome, very comprehensive list of ideas for easy backyard fun. So many of these things are on my go-to list, but some more great ideas in here that I haven’t thought of too.

  7. I could not imagine having eight kids and yet you do it with creativity! Some creative games to keep them occupied this summer.

  8. Yes what about just gardening together too. When my kids were small we did all kinds of science experiments in the yard. That was a lot of fun. We blew things up – although maybe that’s not great for a toddler. But the point is yes there are so many easy and affordable fun things you can do without breaking the bank so to speak.

  9. My favorite summer time play activity with kids is to play in the sprinklers!! I still have a set that I like to get out when my nieces and nephews come over!!

  10. Our favorite activity for our toddler is the splash pad! We love the sprinklers too! All of the water fun for us!

  11. You are a super mom. Yes, the number of things going on at one time is insane and makes my brain hurt. I have only two, but I did run a home daycare before so I get it. These are wonderful tips.

  12. Wow! Indeed such amazing mom you are! I guess this is indeed worth sharing to my mommy friends. For now, I will keep this in mind since I am not yet a mom. Salute to you my dear!

  13. The summer starts out so exciting. But it can be hard to keep the kids entertained for weeks on end. Definitely need this as a reminder of fun activities to keep us going. Love that they’ll require the kids to stay active, too.

  14. What a great list to keep the littles entertained this summer! I have signed up girls up for some camps, but that’ll only last a couple of weeks. Need to save these ideas for the other weeks.

  15. Hula hoops OMG! Yes they were so much of fun. I think I need to get a few this summer and practice with my kid and his friends – how fun!
