Guess what? It’s time for back-to-school! Parents are all rejoicing while kids cry silently that the summer has finally come to a close and it’s time to head back to the classroom! One of my primary objectives the last few weeks has been to try to come up with fun and exciting snack options for the kids. I don’t like when lunches are repetitive, so I know my kids won’t either. I love being able to mix it up a little bit, and get a little creative!
One snack we have always had on hand at home is Goldfish® crackers. My kids love them with their soups and just as a snack during the day at home. One thing is for sure, they’ve always been a staple in our school lunches too. They are delicious, and when I send them to school I know even my pickiest eater will finish his Goldfish because they are a huge favourite in our house and no one can say no to Goldfish crackers!
Something I wasn’t always aware of though is that Goldfish Colours are sourced from plants! This is something that is important to me as a mom always on the lookout for good, nutritious snacks for my kids. When our children are away from us for 6-7 hours a day, we want to make sure they are eating foods to fuel their minds and keep their bellies full and happy.
The red Goldfish crackers are coloured using a mix of beet juice concentrate and paprika extracted from sweet red peppers. Green Goldfish colouring comes from watermelon, and huito juice concentrates mixed with tumeric. Orange uses annatto extracted from the seed of the achiote tree!
Goldfish crackers are low in saturated fat and have 0 trans fats as well!
When we are home during the weekends, there is nothing better than having a big bowl of soup and letting the kids add their Goldfish crackers to their bowls.
One thing I was surprised to learn was that Goldfish Colours crackers aren’t made with artificial colourings. I know a lot of parents struggle to find great snack options without the dyes that can sometimes be hard to find, so it was great to learn Goldfish Colours that are oh-so-fun for our kids are not made with artificial ingredients as they are made with NO artificial colours or flavours!
If you are looking for a healthier and fun alternative to send in your kids lunches that you can feel good about — Pick up some Goldfish crackers! I know back-to-school time can be very stressful for parents, and it doesn’t have to be at lunch time!
Another reason to be excited about Goldfish crackers is that they are always baked! The taste is always bursting with cheese flavour, and to me, that is something you want in a good, cheesy cracker! Goldfish crackers are a great alternative to have on hand for school lunches and the perfect addition to your little one’s favourite soups!
