Over the summer months it’s important to me that my kids are still active, learning and not just sitting in front of a screen or laying on a couch watching tv. As a kid, I was always outside and always learning new things. So, I want the same for my kids! With school right around the corner we are ready to share with you how we Get Back-to-School Ready With These Amazing Workbooks for Kids!
Disclosure: This post is in partnership with Popular Book Company Canada. As always, opinions are all my own.
Popular Book Company has made books we have been using for years. Back when I did homeschooling with my kids a few years ago they were the workbooks we used. They have workbooks from preschool to grade 12! So, they’ve basically covered everything you’d need to study up, get ready for back-to-school and make sure your kids are ready to jump back into learning full-time! These workbooks also follow the Canadian Curriculum.
With such a wide variety of workbooks available my kids have been busy brushing up on their math, english, and working on some science. These workbooks are great to take on the go too, they are what we bring with us on the long GO train ride into the city and make for great conversations too!
A little bit about the company..
Popular Book Company (Canada) Ltd (“Popular Canada”) was incorporated on July 19, 1994 to publish quality workbooks and other learning materials for preschool and elementary school children. The history of Popular Canada was marked with a line-up of successful publications, beginning with MathSmart published in May 1999. It became an instant success and more than 200,000 copies have been sold since its launch.
Since then, Popular Canada has been constantly improving and expanding its product range. Riding on the success of MathSmart, it strengthened its Math products by publishing MathSmart Problem-Solving and MathSmart Skills Builder. 2001 saw the launch of its anchor series, Complete MathSmart, which became a perennial bestseller across Canada.
On top of the Math workbooks, Popular Canada started publishing English workbooks in 2001 with the EnglishSmart series and later the EnglishSmart Grammar series. Both series, like the Math workbooks, were well-received, which led to the publishing of Complete EnglishSmart in 2003.
Complete MathSmart and Complete EnglishSmart have since continued to be bestselling workbook series in Canada year after year, along with Complete Canadian Curriculum, our signature series first published in 2007. To date, these anchor series have sold more than 2.7 million copies combined. In 2009, we started publishing French workbooks, and now the Complete FrenchSmart series has become yet another of our anchor series.

Hanna isn’t going to school yet, she’s only three but she wanted to join in on the fun too!
“We make learning fun and rewarding!”
As their website states, Popular Book Company makes learning fun and rewarding. The workbooks they offer not only engage our kids through a wide variety of activities but also help kids engage in the basic concepts of the subject the workbooks cover.
I asked Ava and Kyla who are going into grades 7 and 8 in just a few short weeks how they enjoyed their books and I was surprised when they both told me the same thing: “They are fun but can be challenging which made me want to keep doing more pages.” Any workbooks that can challenge kids, engage kids, keep them entertained and also have them learning and wanting more are books I want to keep around for them at all times.
My younger ones who are going into grade 1, grade 3 and grade 5 aren’t always super eager to get their learn on, (Well, minus Justin but he’s just heading into grade 1 and loves school!) they too have enjoyed having these workbooks to keep them busy and engaged when they needed something to do. A few times I even caught Jackson sitting at the table doing some of the activities without even mentioning it to me – thats is a win.
With each workbook following the Canadian Curriculum each helps developing skills in each subject. In each workbook you can find activities to develop skills, with systematic practice in reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary, usage, writing, and phonics. The math workbooks provide curriculum-based units with systematic and progressive practice to ensure that children understand the concepts and master the necessary skills. Step-by-step explanations and math tips are provided along the way. Also included are one midway test and one final test.
Of course, we can’t forget the older kids. My son who doesn’t make an appearance on the blog anymore due to his own privacy, got some workbooks for himself to head into grade 11 with. He had a really great year last year, and we are looking forward to this upcoming year so being able to give him these books to brush up on his skills, refresh his memory and have him ready to tackle grade 11 was really rewarding for me. School hasn’t always been the best place for him, and the new unique way he’s doing school since last year has really made a dramatic difference. These books only add more confidence and readiness for him that makes him ready to tackle the new year.
