Save Money: Buy These Things At The Dollar Store

When many people think of dollar stores they think of cheap $1 items that break or won’t last. But, did you know that it’s no longer 1994 and the dollar stores have all changed? It’s true. Now you can get a wide variety of products from dollar stores and sometimes it can be a shock to walk in after doing a heavy-duty shop at a big boxed store to see some of the items you just picked up at the dollar store for less than half the price you paid. My advice? Check the dollar stores before going to the big boxed stores. You may just be surprised.

In Canada, there are two stores known as dollar stores:

  • Dollarama
  • Dollar Tree

In the US there are a few stores known as dollar stores:

  • Dollar Tree
  • Dollar General
  • Family Dollar

All three of these stores have the widest variety of items that often people don’t think of grabbing from “a dollar store” but they are just the place to shop for just about anything you can think of and I wanted to share the top most common items to buy.

Buy these items at the dollar store:

  • 1L pop
  • Chocolate bars (name brand!)
  • Toothbrushes
  • Tooth Paste
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Hair Products (gel, spray, elastics)
  • Pregnancy Tests
  • Bandaids
  • Greeting Cards
  • Holiday Decorations
  • Dishes
  • Utensils
  • Storage Containers
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Office supplies: pens, paper, pencils
  • Candles (big packages of tea lights and small glass scented/non-scented candles)
  • Picture Frames
  • Decorations
  • Party Supplies
  • Mod Podge
  • Elmer’s Glue
  • Gift bags
  • Chip clips
  • Tools

While you can also buy food (canned foods and at some Dollar Trees they also have a freezer section) I left them off the list in an effort to show a wide variety of other items you may not think to find at the dollar store. You can also find pet food at these stores, but I generally don’t go there for that. Most times it is the bigger name brands too so if you want to give those a try, you can as they are less than half the price!

Why spend more than you have to when you can get these items for $1-$3? Next time you run out of the items listed head to your nearest dollar store before stopping at the others — you won’t be disappointed, I promise!

Have you found any great deals at the dollar stores lately? If not – keep your eyes peeled because they are some fantastic finds for only a few dollars!
