Easy DIY Washi Tape Craft

DIY washi tape craft pinterest image(1)If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you would have seen this post, this post and all of these. If not, take a moment to have a peek. If you did, you’d know just how much I LOVE washi tape. There is no limit when it comes to washi tape and what you can do with it. I know, I’ve done so much with it and even my girls love doing crafts, re-purposing and making things with washi. It’s a bit of an obsession, but at least it isn’t one that is too bad, right?

In the world of planners and washi, there’s a saying “Washi all the things” and it’s true, we try to washi all the things but some things I’ll admit don’t look cute with washi. While others, you wonder why you never thought of it sooner.

This post falls into that category. How come we didn’t think of this sooner? I know, I know I’m kicking myself because how many ugly, old, or weird looking statues, figures or toys do you have laying around that could use a little fixin’? How about a little color?  I bet a lot. Well, here’s something you can do to add a splash of color, and make up one of those icky looking figurines! Put it on a shelf, add it to your living room or even a little kids room. How cute, would a few of these be sittin’ on a shelf together? I can’t even…easywashicraft

You will need:

  • the item you wish to turn into your statue
  • white spray paint
  • assorted colors and styles of washi tape
How to make your statue:

Finding something to use as a statue is easier than you might think! You can dig down into the bottom of your child’s toy chest or browse the aisles of a thrift store.

Make sure that your item is clean from any dirt or grime.

Use  white spray paint to apply a thin, even coat of paint to your statue. Let dry completely and spray again until all surfaces are covered.

TIP: The reason you spray it white is because the washi tape is translucent so to keep the colors bright and even, you want the base to be all white.

Once the paint is dry, you can begin to apply the washi tape. Luckily this type of tape tears easily so you can add layers quickly and easily. Use your imagination!

You can do it on a small scale for parties and they can take it home as a souvenir. You can do it on a large scale as a trendy and colorful home decor item. Even make one as a thoughtful gift!

I’ll do it and post it because I’m sure it’s going to be SO cute. Let’s hope I can find the whale I have in my head in order to do this! It’s such a cute and fun way to pretty up some items for any shelf in any living room or kids room! I can’t wait to see what my kids come up with when we do this next week for a homeschool project! So fun.
