Thoughtful Printable Gift for Those Grieving

Back when I lost my mom in 2001 I was empty. I felt very alone and misplaced in the world and felt that way until I gave birth to my oldest just two months into being eighteen years old. No one ever prepares you for losing a parent. No one tells you how empty you’d feel, and that the void would never be filled again. No one really talks about losing a parent, especially at a younger age. It’s an awful thought but a very real one to me so I talk to my kids about it and her, and when we’ve lost pets or friends along the way it has opened up more discussions.

I am very honest with my kids about death and life, and feelings. I try to communicate with them as best I can and let them know they can and will always be able to tell me anything, and that I will always be here for them.

Recently, someone I know lost her mother. It was difficult and it made me remember a saying I’ve heard over the years. We’ve all heard, “Find a penny pick it up, all day long you’ll have good luck!” but are you aware of the saying that goes along with finding a penny an angel throws down? If you are let me refresh your memory, and if you aren’t this is what I mean:

“When an Angel misses you they toss a penny down. Sometimes to cheer you up and make a smile out of your frown. So don’t pass by a penny, when you’re feeling blue. It may just be a penny an Angel tossed down for you.”

Powerful, right? Well, I decided to make this printable so that I can not only give them to my kids so when they are out and about and see a penny they can think of my mom, but also for you in case you know someone who may need a little reminder that their lost loved ones will always be with them.

Materials Needed:

For these you don’t need much:

  • THIS free printable
  • Good quality cardstock paper
  • Paper Cutter/Scissors
  • Glue gun
  • Pennies

Putting them together:

These are so easy. Simply print out the free printable, cut out the cards and you glue gun on the pennies. That’s it!

I don’t know about you but I see pennies all the time, and here in Canada pennies are no longer being made or circulated so finding them may be a little harder and rare which makes this mean so much more.

I think to help kids understand a bit better, and begin to heal something like this is a must. I know a lot of people think it’s crazy to think this way, so if it’s not for you I understand. But, this is a way to help heal and a reminder our loved ones are always with us even if they aren’t here on earth with us.

If you know someone who could use a little reminder or some cheering up, simply give them this little card and they’ll always be reminded when they see a penny, it’s someone watching down on them!
