Breastfeeding Made Easier With The Medela Freestyle Double Electric Breast Pump #MedelaCanada

Breastfeeding wasn’t always super important to me like it is now. I tried with my first and fourth which failed miserably at 2 weeks both times, but didn’t bother with either girls. By the time I had Jackson (baby #5) I was determined. My life had settled down, and was much happier than the previous years and I had to support I needed to make it! So, I tried and we made it to 14.5 months before Jackson decided he was done breastfeeding! Then came Justin. I nursed him until I was 22 weeks pregnant with Hanna this past year. He was almost 3. He would probably still be nursing if I hadn’t of had Hanna and insist we stop due to being exhausted and just needing a few weeks to myself before nursing a newborn round the clock again.

Now, Hanna is 8 weeks old (today, oh my!) and going strong with nursing. I was thrilled when I received the Medela Freestyle Double Electric Breast Pump as I have tried other pumps in the past but never a Medela and I was really excited to try it out. I wasn’t really planning to pump a lot with Hanna, as I’m home and can just nurse on demand but it’s still nice to have a little stash as a just in case or for daddy to help take part too! The Medela Freestyle comes with everything you need to get you started, and also comes with a gorgeous discreet bag to keep your pump and essentials in for on the go, at home or just to keep all together.

So, I came up with a routine that I would for sure pump once a week, after a good long feed and see what I could get. I was very shocked the the Medela Freestyle Double Electric Breast Pump was so comfortable to use, easy to put together and clean and it was also very quiet. Making pumping at night when little miss sleeps through the night easy and doesn’t disturb anyone else! It’s really something else. Hanna has been sleeping through the night a few times now and waking up with a shirt soaked, and bed soaked isn’t very fun so I can take a few minutes to pump while she sleeps which results in less mess on me and my bed, and more milk saved and in the freezer for her and her tummy!

I will admit, I was a little intimidated with the pump being a double pump, I wasn’t sure how well it would work for me or how my body would respond to pumping both breasts at one time but it was easy, peasy. No issues what so ever and to be honest, I get a lot more doing both at the same time than I do one side at a time – I did both once to just see what would happen and was very surprised.

Now when I am out at the store, and daddy is with me we can bring a bottle along and he can feed Hanna too. If I’m busy doing something out with the other kids, dad can grab some milk out of the freezer and feed her then too! It’s made life a lot easier, and a lot less stressful for me as I can run to the store leaving Hanna with daddy and I don’t have to rush home, or worry about if she wakes up 5 or 10 minutes before I get home because we will have some milk at home waiting for her.

If you’ve never tried a good pump like the Medela Freestyle Double Electric Breast Pump and aren’t too sure, believe me when I say I’ve tried 3 other breast pumps and none of them compare. I used to sit for an hour or two after Jackson nursed pumping which would result in about 6 or so ounces…. With the Medela Freestyle I got 6.5 ounces in 3 minutes of pumping after nursing Hanna for 20’ish minutes on each side before hand.

Isn’t that a beautiful sight? I found pumping with both at the same time was a lot easier, and produced a lot more than just doing one side at a time, so I would highly recommend doing both at the same time. It’s comfortable, it’s easy and it’s really quick to get the job done. It’s 2-Phase Expression technology is something I’ve never seen before, and it’s really why I think this pump ranks above all else – the breast pump simulates your baby’s natural sucking behaviour at the breast and feels very comfortable to use. The 2-Phase Expression starts off with a short, quick sucking rhythm until your milk starts to flow. It then changes to a slow rhythm to express the milk.

It’s portable and has a digital screen to see information such as pumping and let down suction levels.  It also has a timer and it’s back lit so you don’t have to worry about turning on lights or having a bright pump light shining at night when doing night pumps.

If you are a busy mom who is pumping, or breastfeeding but looking to get a pump to suit you and your lifestyle, trying the Medela Freestyle Electric Double Pump may just be the pump you are looking for. After trying many, I wish I would have had this pump for all 7 of my babies. I feel like if I had with baby #1 it would have saved my breastfeeding relationship with him, and I could have succeeded with all the others – although #5, #6 and #7 have been successes, I still feel as though with a good, hospital grade pump and support I would have done much better. A good pump is essential when it comes to breastfeeding and Medela has really out done themselves with the Freestyle!

Since I was able to hit 14.5 months of breastfeeding with Jackson and almost 3 years of breastfeeding Justin I am confident I will reach my breastfeeding goal of 3 years with Hanna with the help of my Medela Freestyle Double Electric Pump. It’s comfortable, easy to use and makes my life so much easier.. which as a busy mom of 7, I really need! If I can pump 6 ounces in 3 minutes as I have always had a pretty big milk supply, instead of 20-30 that I have previously with other pumps then I will never be switching again! You just can’t beat it!
