Over the last few months, it’s like I’ve become a different person. In a good way though, because you know what they say: When you surround yourself with the wrong people, it will backfire every time. I took this to heart recently and got rid of some toxic people in my life and just by doing that it instantly changed everything.
How I feel, how I act, how I dress, how I conduct my business. EVERYTHING. Changed in an instant. I never realized how much the people in your life affect your well-being and how you feel so truly and so deeply until I got rid of those who made me feel very crummy.
Fast forward to a few weeks ago, and I’m so excited to share that I’ve kept up with the goodness and will keep it going from here on out. With all these changes came some from within. I realized after years of talking to toxic people day in and day out it not only took a toll on who I was as a person but also took a toll on how I felt about myself. While it’s true, no one can make you feel any way you don’t allow, I was allowing people to make me feel awful. It wasn’t a great feeling.

Until about a month ago I hadn’t worn make up in years. I mean, like 10 years. It was something I didn’t feel I had time to do nor did I want to put in the effort. I was tired, all day every day. Just tired. Listening to others whine and complain 24/7 really takes a toll, so when that left my life I realized, I do have time, I do have the need and I do want to do this.
Off to the store, Ava and I went for a lesson in some makeup. I found out my face is extremely dry, sensitive and I had quite a bit of dead skin that needed a new routine to take care of. Within 30 minutes I had the right skincare routine to fix these minor issues, and that same week I got an email from Maybelline. I was thrilled, was it a sign? Probably, but knowing me I thought coincidence.
Not long later a bag arrived at my house FULL of new Maybelline makeup. I was over the moon. No one understands how someone who didn’t use make up for 10+ years got so excited and jumped right in overnight but I never felt better. I’m also in more photos, I take actual selfies and I care less about what others think; something I know a lot of moms face.
My absolute favourite in that mailer? Was the Maybelle Nudes of New York eye shadow. It’s so beautiful, the colours are exactly what I like to wear and it lasts. Usually, when I find a colour I like I’d put it on and within a few hours its all clumpy, blotchy or worse… coming off. The Maybelle Nudes of New York lasts all day and doesn’t need any touch-ups. The following week I got another mailer, and this time – FOUNDATION. Something I often struggled with as a teen because I found it would always look “cakey” on my face. Well, after my trip to the makeup counter I found out why, and with my new skincare routine, it isn’t an issue anymore – so you could imagine how excited I was to get this box of foundation.
Can we have a quick moment of honesty with no shame: I’ve never felt better. Putting on make up makes me feel like I’m on top of the world. I have zero shame to tell you everyday I take a selfie of myself, with a motivational quote and I post on my social media channels. Why? Because I feel empowered. I feel like I’ve never looked better and I’m proud of that. After so many years of feeling so down on myself, I feel like a million bucks. I’ve lost 13lbs in the last month, I’ve changed how I dress and how I feel about myself inside and out, and now the confidence I have is second to none. It’s really truly been eye-opening.
While some may never understand, other mamas: I know you can.
Not all of us spend as much time on ourselves as we should. How can we take care of others if we aren’t taking care of ourselves? I’m going to live by this, and when I forget, I’ll have this post to look back on. The best part is all of this makeup is affordable. Kyla and I LOVED it so much, we used it too much. OH MY GOSH ladies, buy it. Buy it now. I will never buy any other concealer. It’s for under the eyes but I also use it on problem areas and it’s probably the #1 product in my make up bag right now. I had to buy Kyla one too. It’s a bit pricey where I got it, it was $19.99 but OH SO WORTH IT. (you can also buy it on amazon for $12.99 – you’re welcome)
