A few weeks ago when I was asking all my kids what they wanted for Christmas I was thrown list after list after list of toys, clothes, and trinkets from the kids twelve and under but when it came to my fifteen-year-old son I hadn’t heard anything.
So, I asked him and was shocked by his response: Socks, new bedding and a color changing light for his room.
That’s it I thought? That’s easy enough, he doesn’t generally want much so although I was shocked at what the items were I wasn’t shocked that they were simple and easy to do.
Philips has always been a long-standing name in our house. We’ve had items here on the blog, and I love working with them so I was thrilled with the chance to get and review Philips Hue Play Light Bar.
What is Philips Hue Play?
Philips Hue Play is compact and flexible and allows you to choose from 16 million colours! Simply connect to your Philips Hue Bridge and add special lighting effects to your home entertainment space. Bring a whole new level of excitement and immersion to your gaming experience. With Hue Sync you can transfer the effects of your computer screen to your Philips Hue Play light bar and transform the entire room into an epic gaming area. And to magnify the experience, Hue Play is expandable up to three pieces (to the same power supply unit).
Use Philips Hue Play to recreate a cinema atmosphere from the comfort of your couch. Easily mount the light bar to your TV to add the perfect backlight, or situate the discreet light bars in a variety of ways around your TV to experience splashes of light reacting to the rhythm of your favourite music or TV show.
Customizable ambiance creation. Whether you are having friends over for dinner or relaxing with a book, Philips Hue Play can create the right atmosphere to suit every mood. And the discreet design and versatility make it easy to integrate in just about any space.
Smart home control. Philips Hue Play can be controlled through the Philips Hue app or voice command systems, such as Amazon Alexa or Apple Homekit. For your convenience, you can set timers, notifications and manage your Philips Hue Play system from your smartphone or tablet.
This is exactly what my teen needs. He plays video games in his room on his PC, he is a music fanatic and he has his own Alexa. So, of course, I had to get two. One for my hubby and one for the teen, for under the Christmas tree.
The set-up is quite simple. My husband did it in under 5 minutes. We put ours in our living room as we are wrapping a brand new gaming system for the whole family and putting it under the tree Christmas eve, from Santa, and are excited to have the Philips Hue Play to light up our game nights in a unique way. The colors are endless with 16 million colors to choose from – can you believe that? Even my favorite shade of teal was available, and I love it! Setting the Hue Play up with Alexa is also fairly easy if you have one or an Apple Homekit. We will be using our Philips Hue Play for family movie nights until after the holidays when we set up our new gaming area.

- Select the Philips Hue lights of your choice and connect them to your Philips Hue bridge. The bridge is powerful enough to handle up to 50 lights, so Hue-ify your whole house.
