Why We Have a Zoo! We are Proud #PetPeople

petpeople1PROUDMy whole life I’ve always had pets. I’ve never lived a day without at least 1 or two pets. They’ve always had a special place in my heart and when people ask now if we have any pets I love responding with, “We’ve got a zoo!”

We’ve always been pet people, but I think I take it to a whole other level. My pets are like my babies. I’d do anything for them and jump at the chance to spoil them rotten. Right now we have 3 dogs, 3 cats, 1 bird and about 15 fish.

What it means to me that we are Pet People

mybabiesTo some having pets is just a fun thing to do, or they do it for the kids but for me pets are part of my family. I grew up having a house full of animals so for me it would leave an empty feeling not only in my heart, but in my life if I didn’t have my pets. Even when I was a child, we had a spaniel and I was absolutely heartbroken when he died. My friend actually suggested I get a Cocker Spaniel necklace to really feel close to him. My dogs are the biggest babies you will ever meet; Ace our puppy that was part of Chanel and Chase’s litter is seriously the most attached dog I’ve ever seen in my life. He is also a very anxious dog so I think I’m the person who brings him the most comfort. He doesn’t really like other dogs and is very nervous when we take him places. It’s gotten to the point where I’m currently looking into cbd for pets to see if it can help him with this anxiety because I worry so much about him. For now though, I’m happy with the love I get from him! I leave the room for 5 minutes, come back and it’s like he hasn’t seen me in a year or two and the love is so real.

I recently went through my 2nd miscarriage in 5 months; I didn’t want to talk about it with anyone in my family instead I chose to sit on my bed with my furbabies and cry while snuggling with them. They fill that void you feel when you’re sad, but don’t want any human interaction, you don’t want to answer questions and you don’t want to explain anything to anyone. Pets don’t care what people say, or why you are sad – they are just there. They want to comfort you and make sure you are okay, they love you unconditionally even though you may feel at your lowest, they are there giving you kisses and making sure you are alright.

Nothing comes close to the love of a pet. Humans, and love are one thing – but they judge, they have conditions and pets? Don’t. When they say dogs are man’s best friend I believe it because I’ve seen it, I’ve lived it. My cats are just the same. Although is a bit different with cats who tend to want to do their own thing, don’t be fooled. They love you, and are there for you just as much. So as a family being pet people, it’s important to us because not only do we need that extra bit of love, support and companionship from time to time – so do they, and I’m so glad to have them in our lives. I think when it comes down to it we all need each other, and they complete our family. I couldn’t imagine a day without Chase, Chanel, Ace, Charley, Roo and Tigger. (our bird Teeki and fish with multiple names either!) So when I’m asked what being a pet person means to me I simply say: It means unconditional love, companionship and devotion. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  1. Since we’re real life friends, I already know you have a zoo and how much you love all of your pets. I think you are so cute with all the pics you always post of them :)

  2. Having a pet is definitely rewarding! And it feels awesome to know that you are loved and needed. They deserve the best as well, so it’s important to give them the right food.

  3. i can see that both you and i are pet lovers – i can’t keep a lot of pets in my home due to allergies – you’re doing it for me :)

  4. you definitely have more fur babies than we do but I could not imagine a home without pets in it. At one point, growing up, we had 8 cats then we added 2 dogs to the mix! I absolutely loved the love. We have 1 dog and 1 cat right now who get so much love and attention. My kids have never known a home without pets it in. I think it teaches kids responsibility right away when there are pets in the house to take care of.

  5. My dogs are like my best friends. They’re good listeners, know when something is wrong, and never talk back…well, sometimes they bark back. Love my pets.

  6. I have a ton of fur babies around our house, cats, dogs, sheep, rabbits and donkeys coming soon! They all have their own personalities.

  7. I am SO sorry that you had to go through what you went through. I had one also and it is terrible you are right when it comes to pets they know exactly what to “say”. Pets are the best.

  8. I’m SO sorry to hear of your miscarriages, so sad and hard I’m sure. I’m glad to know you have so much comfort in your fur babies. Pets make a house a home!

  9. I am a huge pet person! If I could adopt all those in the shelter I would. I only have two cats right now, but I’m hoping to get a dog at least and may some more pets. I couldn’t live without pets. I love them a lot!

  10. I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I have been there and they are not easy to handle. I know when my late-fiance passed, it was my cats that helped get me through. I just cried and held them and they helped soothe me.

  11. We are definitely pet people here too! We have 3 dogs, but my male boxer is my baby. I love snuggling with him on the couch each morning after all the humans have left for the day!

  12. Pets always have a way of knowing when you need to be cheered up. I have two cats that are my fur babies. I would love to have a few more but my kids would be sneezing all the time.

  13. I used to have two cats and a dog. The dog and one of the cats were seniors. Now I am down to one cat I like that I have less clean up and smaller vet bills but I do miss the other pets. I’ll eventually get another dog or cat, or both. LOL

  14. What a furry family you have. You are so lucky, all your babies look so sweet and cuddly. I’m also a life-long animal lover and would probably have a whole house full of animals if I lived alone and could do anything I wanted to.

  15. Adopting animals can be such a rewarding experience! They all have so much to share in their own way!

  16. We love our pups so much too. There is nothing better than cuddling with your pup after a long day. It really helps you to unwind.

  17. I love my fur babies too. It is so nice to have company during the day. I’m sorry to hear about your miscarriages. I hope the love of your family, pets included, helps your heart to heal.

  18. Pets really are a part of the family. When we thought we lost our cat earlier this fall, we were all so heartbroken. Thankfully, we found him.

  19. I loved this post since I am a pet person too! I don’t know how you do it though with all those pets and all those kids!!

  20. I believe those who have pets have a great sense of responsibility and I guess that is why it is not for us even though we also like one or two… it’s like being responsible for another’s life.
